About Porsche

Ferdinand Porsche played an important role in the development of airplanes and racing cars, and the construction of tanks for the Wehrmacht. He is an automobile engineer with more than a thousand patents to his name. He was appointed chief engineer at Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart in the 1920s. Later on, he set up his own engineering workshop and designed among others the Volkswagen. At the plant where Volkswagen was made, Wolfsburg, he was chief of operations and at the end of the war he was interned by the Allies.

He was released a few years later and started building his first car with his son, Ferry Porsche. The car was named the Porsche 356 and it was a sports car and a reminiscent of the Volkswagen. It had the same four-cylinder boxer engine that was rear-mounted, just like the VW. It was far from being a powerful sports car, developing only 40 bhp and a maximum speed of 87 mph (140 km/h). First produced as a convertible and later as a hard top it distinguished by the very elegant and innovative body. It was developed in the workshop of Erwin Komenda, a master of restrained streamlining who had been in charge of sheet metal and design techniques at Porsche since the VW Beetle. The new style of closed coupe was designed by Komenda and it soon became the embodiment of the sports car, thanks to its fastback.

This tradition was continued by Komenda and Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche, the founder’s grandson, with the 911.

The 911 became easily recognizable: it had attractive sloping bonnet and what later became characteristic “frog eye” headlights, curves running from the top edge of the windscreen to the rear bumper and a straight waistline. From a functional and technical point of view it was more like BMW 1500, although it retained the stylistic features of the original Porsche. The new 911 will become the foundation stone of Porsche’s identity, even though the design was not always appreciated. During the 1970`s and 1980`s, the designers attempts to distance Porsche from its legendary design brought the company to the edge of disaster. The more modern 924 model, “a people’s Porsche”, developed with Volkswagen, as well as the 928 were far from fulfilling the expectations.

In the 1990`s, the company realized that what for over twenty years was perceived as a straitjacket, it was in fact a market advantage. In many cars, dash and trim rings have to be filed to enlarge the radio hole. Once the ring is installed, the radio slides in and is held by snaps. In most cases, special tools are required to remove the radio.

Speakers are very critical in a car stereo installation. No matter how expensive your speakers are, if they are not properly installed, the sound will not be up to par.

In a simple car stereo installation, you’ll probably be using speakers that fit into a factory location. Just make sure there are no gaps or holes. Sometimes building a wood or fiberglass baffle helps reduce holes and gives you much better sound. But always be careful when using power tools around speakers. Car stereo installation warranties usually don’t cover holes in speakers.

For unconventional speaker locations, sometimes metal has to be cut. You might want to leave this to the professionals, tools like plasma cutters and pneumatics drills are required. But if you’re going to insist, a pair of metal snips (left and right cut) will do.

Hybrid cars just can’t compete with that kind of efficiency. Hybrid-car batteries certainly don’t burn hotter and faster than hydrogen.

Some people think that hydrogen cars are some sort of hyped-up fantasy

Many people think that hybrid cars are much more feasible than hydrogen cars. And hybrid cars already cut down emissions from 30 to 50%. So why in the world would people want to invest time and money in hydrogen cars?

Hydrogen is a not a fuel source, but a fuel carrier

That means that hydrogen has to be produced from other sources. And people are hoping that hydrogen will be able to be produced from things such as wind power or other types of renewable sources. Right now, it looks like all we have is natural gas. That is the most efficient way to get hydrogen. And if that’s the case, then there’s no need to make hydrogen cars. Tips to Repair a Car Dent

Repairing dents are a type of ‘do-it-yourself’ style repairs and there are a number of things needed for it.

Following things will be needed for removing and repairing dents:

1. Dent pulling tool or dent pulling kit, it can be either purchased or borrowed.

2. Dolly, it is a specially designed tool made for flattening and reshaping metal. It is also important to have a metalworking hammer.
Many kits include everything that is needed to remove and repair small dents easily and quickly. A number of dent repair kits should be purchased from the market. Suction cups and similar implements are used by many of these kits. It has an advantage of eradicating the need of drilling holes in the finishing process for removing a dent.

Once the required tools are bought, following are the steps needed to complete the dent repairs:

– The center of the dent should be located, than a hole in the dent should be drilled with a drill bit of 1/8″. Alternatively, a hot glue gun can also be used to glue a plastic adapter to the center of the dent. Many dent removal kits contain these plastic adapters and glue guns.

– The dent pulling tool should be threaded into the newly drilled hole. It can also be attached to the plastic circle that is glued on the dent. When the dent pulling tool will be in place, it has to be pulled to flatten the dent.

– By using the metalworking hammer, the front of the dent has to be carefully hammered. It has to be done at the same time while the dolly is held firmly against the back side of the dent. During the work, it may be necessary to go underneath the car or open the trunk the car in order to reach the back of the dent.

– The paint can be grinded down to the bare metal by using a medium grit disk that is mounted on a drill. The area can be extended out at least one inch around the dent itself. Then the entire area can be filled with good quality body filler.

– The body filler has to be allowed to dry completely, than the area can be carefully sanded with sandpaper which that has been wrapped around a block of wood. When sanding, 36-grit sandpaper can be used in the start and then it can be worked up to a 120-grit sandpaper.

– A spray primer has to be used to prime the area; one has to be sure to use a primer which is specially designed for automotive use. Six coats of primer should be used; each coat of primer should be allowed to dry completely before applying the next coat.

– The primer has to be sanded using by using 600-grit wet and dry sandpaper. This will be helpful in removing any scratches. After this, the area should be touched up with a matching automotive paint. In case of the paint is not smooth enough, the area would have to be sanded and painted again until a there is a smooth surface.

Spark plugs are vital components of the car’s system. When a car’s engine slows down in its performance, it is a clear indication that the plug has become faulty. Overheating of a Car

When looking in to the issue of the overheating of a car, the air conditioning compressor needs the cooling fan working in idle mode as long as the car’s compressor is on. To check if the car’s cooling fan is working, the air conditioner has to be switched on. Its switches on together with the car’s air conditioner compressor.
